Revealed: Why De Jong has REFUSED to sign new Barcelona contract
Frenkie de Jong is refusing to sign a new Barcelona contract with the Dutch international set to wait until next summer before committing to the Blaugrana.
The 27-year-old’s current deal at Camp Nou runs until 2026 and he reportedly has no intention of signing an extension this year.
De Jong has been continuously linked with a Barcelona exit for the past few years, however he is unlikely to leave the club this summer.

Despite this, the former Ajax midfielder will not sign a new contract at Camp Nou, according to Marca.
As per the report, De Jong has multiple reasons for rejecting the chance to sign fresh terms.
The first is due to Barcelona’s current asking price, which stands at between €70-80 million. The Dutchman is aware that Barca will accept a lower fee next summer, which would improve his chances of sealing a top level move away.

Furthermore, De Jong knows he holds more power in negotiations the longer time goes on and would therefore be able to demand a higher wage package.
As a result, he has opted against penning a new contract, according to reports in Spain.
Barcelona’s summer transfer plans
Although De Jong has reportedly refused to sign a new deal, Hansi Flick will be thankful he has the Dutchman at his disposal.
In addition, Barcelona remain interested in signing both Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix on permanent deals following their loan moves during the 2023-24 season.
Felix has reiterated his desire to re-join Barca to The Nude Project (via Fabrizio Romano). “I’m on loan, it doesn’t depend on me,” the Portuguese international said “My plan is clear, I love Barcelona and I want to stay”.
“It depends on several factors, so let’s see what’s gonna happen.”
Felix, 24, scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 44 appearances for Barcelona last campaign.
