Who is Jaden Philogene? The ex-Aston Villa wonderkid who could go from Championship to Barcelona
Jaden Philogene has emerged as a surprise target for Barcelona this summer. But who is 22 year old Hull City winger who could be on the move to the Nou Camp?
Philogene grew up in London and was spotted at the Pro:Direct academy when he was 16 years old. Initially he underwent a trial at several English clubs including Brentford before ultimately joining Aston Villa in 2018.
For the next few years he would progress through the ranks at Villa, catching the eye for the club’s U18 and U23 side.

Capable of playing on both wings, Philogene is known for his flair and ability to shine in one vs one situations.
He made a handful of first team appearances at Villa but in the end it’s on loan where Philogene made a name for himself – first catching the eye at Stoke City and then Cardiff City in the Championship.
Last summer, he made the permanent move to Hull City in England’s second tier where he has been a sensation.
Philogene scored 12 goals and registered six assists for Hull last season while also earning his first England U21 call-up.
Philogene scored twice on his England U21 debut against Serbia and has three goals and two assists in four international caps at U21 level so far.
The tricky winger is expected to be on the move this summer. Barcelona are not the only club interested in his services. Everton has also been linked with a move and there are several other Premier League clubs would have Philogene on their radar.

Last summer, his agent reportedly even held talks with Liverpool’s representatives.
Still only 22 years old, he will not be in a rush to make a decision. Hull City have him on a contract until 2026 and they will be hoping to make a mass profit on the €5.8m they signed Philogene for from Aston Villa.
