Barcelona youngster Alex Valle's release clause has dropped to just €3 million, according to Spanish media.

The Catalan giants remain mired in financial difficulties. Though they are confident of securing a €60m+ deal for new top target Dani Olmo following the news that Nico Williams is more likely to remain at Athletic Club, Barcelona are not out of the woods when it comes to their economic situation.

This has manifested itself in Barcelona struggling to register all of their players for the upcoming LaLiga season. Indeed, so far, a host of big-name players remain as yet unregistered, such as Ronald Araujo and Vitor Roque.

Another player who as yet remains in limbo is young left-back Alex Valle, who is coming off a season on loan in the second tier with Levante. It was expected that he would be kept around by the club this summer to act as back-up to Alejandro Balde, but Barcelona have taken a major risk by not registering him.

Valle release clause drops by €27m

According to Relevo, Valle's €30m release clause has now dropped down to just €3m because he was not registered by July 31. This means that the 20-year-old is not only available at a cut price but he, of course, has his future in his own hands.

Indeed, it is claimed that several Spanish clubs have been alerted to the situation, viewing this as a brilliant opportunity to strike a low-risk, high-reward bargain.

However, it is unclear whether Valle himself is actually interested in leaving Barcelona. If a club decides to trigger his new clause, the decision of whether or not to make the move will be entirely up to him, with the Blaugrana out of the equation.

Nevertheless, Barcelona have gambled in a big way. If true that Valle was earmarked as a valuable squad member for the upcoming season, the club may soon be forced to plug a hole they can ill-afford to spend a lot of money on should he indeed decide to depart.
