Lamine Yamal was seen limping away from the stadium after Barcelona claimed a 1-0 victory over Getafe in LaLiga on Wednesday.

Robert Lewandowski’s early strike might have decided the match, but once again it was the incredible talents of 17-year-old Lamine that lit up Barca’s temporary home of Montjuic.

COPE reports that the Spain international star had received a blow to his ankle in the encounter, and while this is not thought to pose any immediate difficulties to the teenager, there are concerns over how opponents are treating him.

Even Marca, the Madrid-based media outlet, has flagged up the treatment as concerning with the headline: ‘Lamine Yamal: not protected’.

Marca continues:

“From the opening whistle, the stands at Montjuic were screaming every time the Spanish international was tackled, fearing that their superstar would go down injured.

“Even Raphinha, the captain, went to speak with referee Gonzalez Fuertes to denounce some of the actions suffered by his young teammate, who despite the situation, continued to stand out and run with the ball. He's unstoppable.”

Despite all this, Lamine only won three free kicks, which was two short of fellow youngster Alejandro Balde, another player who has missed a good deal of football lately due to injury. Getafe, meanwhile, only saw one yellow card, with a rotation of players charged with stopping Yamal by any means necessary.

Barcelona’s injury problems

Lamine’s woes come at a time when footballers are considering striking over the number of games they are playing. Jule Kounde, his Barcelona teammate, is one of those who has spoken out about the volume of matches, while Raphinha is another.

Barca, meanwhile, have already been struck by several significant injuries this season, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen out for the season and summer arrival Dani Olmo joining Gavi and Ronald Araujo on the sidelines. Pedri is just coming back from a long period out.

It appears that Lamine Yamal has avoided injury this time around, but it may only be a matter of time before the youngster picks up a significant issue if he continues to be targeted.
