The Athletic reports that Stockport's coach, who joined the club in July, was selected largely due to his strong connection with Davide Ancelotti, assistant manager at Real Madrid and son of Carlo Ancelotti.

It's thought that Carlo and Davide had been searching for an English coach with experience in the English Football League (EFL), and Mangan came highly recommended by Davide.

Man Utd in for Real Madrid target

It comes after the news that Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to sign River Plate wonderkid Franco Mastantuono.

The 17-year-old has been continually linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent months, but Los Blancos have now cooled their interest in the young Argentine.

That is according to Spanish outlet Marca, who report that Real Madrid have decided against pursuing a move for Mastantuono due to constant links with the player.

The report states that Los Blancos prefer to operate in silence when dealing with South American talent and rumours of a move for Mastantuono have put Real Madrid off a deal.

As a result, Man Utd have now registered their interest in the teenager and are ready to battle Barcelona for his signature.
