Barcelona are interested in signing highly-rated Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, according to Spanish media.

Ahead of this season, the goalkeeper position was not one that the Blaugrana had to think about too much. Marc-Andre Ter Stegen was the undisputed No.1 and there was no reason to change this.

However, the German is now out for the season after suffering an injury described as being 'more serious than an ACL tear' and at 32 years of age, there is no guarantee that he will be the same upon his return.

Barcelona have brought Wojciech Szczesny out of retirement as a short-term solution to ensure that they are not left too light in the goalkeeper department, though the Pole has yet to feature and recently admitted that he agrees with Hansi Flick's decision to stick with Inaki Pena for now.

Ter Stegen's injury has led to club chiefs internally discussing the future of their No.1 spot and the conclusion they have arrived at is that it would be preferable to bring a long-term solution sooner rather than later.

Barcelona eye Chevalier

According to Relevo, the player Blaugrana bosses have identified as the perfect man for the job is Lucas Chevalier. The 22-year-old has been nothing short of sensational for Lille for some time now and this hasn't gone unnoticed in Catalunya.

Such has been Chevalier's impact that data analytics firm SciSports rate him as the most promising goalkeeper in world football in terms of potential.

Better yet - as far as Barcelona are concerned - is that the youngster won't cost a fortune. The Spanish outlet claims that Chevalier could be had for just €20 million, which seems an absolute bargain and a fee the cash-strapped Catalans can actually muster.

Barcelona have also considered Porto's Diogo Costa, but his €45m price tag is deemed too prohibitive. Nice shot-stopper Marcin Bulka is also an option, as confirmed by the man himself, but Chevalier would be the preferred option.
