Gavi has been sidelined since November 2023 after a cruciate ligament tear but is closing in on action for the first time in close to a year.

The final stages of his recovery appear to be going smoothly, with the 20-year-old eager to get back on the field.

Sport has reported in detail on the Barcelona star’s condition – and it makes great reading for fans of the Camp Nou side.

“Gavi had to be stopped in some phases of his recovery because he was so eager to return to the pitch,” the report says.

Barcelona, though, have wanted to make sure the process has been done thoroughly and properly so that one of the brightest young stars in the world game minimises his chances of a relapse of the serious injury.

Gavi’s return from injury

On Wednesday, he took part in 45 minutes of training during a match between Barcelona’s players who are not with their national teams and Barca Atletic. This was the longest he had played since returning and he dazzled observers with his approach to the game.

Sport says that spectators were “amazed”, with one unnamed source stating that: “He is like a bull!”

There are no fears that Gavi will return to the field in a timid manner, and there is even a suggestion that he will come back stronger than ever.

“His physical appearance is striking. He looks more muscular and strong after intense training, which he took even when everyone else was on holiday,” the report states.

“Those who deal with him see that the player has an unbreakable faith in his potential and the player from Los Palacios is convinced that the injury, far from undermining him, has increased his confidence.”

Gavi has also met Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick to discuss the tactical aspects of the game, so he can immediately slot into his plans when he is finally fit to return to the first-team fold.
