Trent Alexander-Arnold WILL sign for Real Madrid, Liverpool legend says
Liverpool losing Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer to Real Madrid in the summer is something that club legend Jamie Carragher is becoming resigned to.
Alexander-Arnold has been associated with a move to Real Madrid for several months, and with his contract running out in June 2025, he will be able to depart for the Bernabeu as a free agent next summer.
Carragher says that he feels this is now inevitable, with the player’s comments on the Ballon d’Or sealing the Anfield legend’s belief that Trent is in the midst of his last season as a Liverpool player.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal, he said: “My first thought when I saw that is you're not going to win the Ballon d'Or as a right-back for Liverpool.
“Ballon d'Or winners normally play for Real Madrid or Barcelona. That's where the best players in the world go.
“If that is his ultimate ambition - I think he was aked about winning the Champions League, the World Cup or the Balon d'Or and he went for the Balon d'Or - which I think is a bit strange or bizarre because it is a team game, but he has got massive ambitions and why not? You've only got one career, he 's a unique full back and he's absolutely amazing.
“But the first thing that came to me when I read that interview is that makes me think he is going to Real Madrid.
“I actually think Virgil Van Dijk and Mo Salah will stay. I do believe that, but the longer it goes on with Trent, the more I feel he is going to leave.”
Van Dijk and Salah to stay
Van Dijk and Salah are also out of contract with Liverpool in the summer, with the Dutchman stating after the Arsenal draw that he is taking his time over making a decision.
“I'm very calm [about my contract situation]. I've said that many times before,” he told Sky Sports.
“Let's see what happens at the end of the season. I'm enjoying my football, feeling very good physically and mentally. I feel in a good place.
“Nothing more can be said. I want to keep enjoying the game, because it's a beautiful game we play.”
Despite Carragher's optimism over Van Dijk and Salah, Liverpool would desperately love Alexander-Arnold to stay as he is only 26.
