Real Madrid were plunged into crisis on Tuesday as they suffered a surprising 3-1 home defeat by AC Milan in the Champions League, with Carlo Ancelotti the subject of an attack from the wife of Federico Valverde.

Ancelotti finds his job under pressure as Los Blancos crumbled to a second Champions League loss of the season at home to the Rossoneri.

Malick Thiaw had given Milan the edge early on only for Vinicius Junior to square the game from the penalty spot, yet Alvaro Morata and Tijani Reijnders put Milan back into the ascendancy to leave the Italian coach on the brink after also losing El Clasico recently.

With Madrid misfiring, Valverde was replaced at half-time, leading to Mina Bonino, the wife of Valverde to take to Twitter.

“I have to finish this better because they’re putting me in jail,” she said as Brahim Diaz took her husband’s place.

She subsequently deleted her tweet, which attracted attention from Real Madrid fans.

One told Bonino: “Fede plays best as a pivot. Whaat are you talking about? When are they going to understand that Fede is not a winger?”

Ancelotti replies to Bonino

Ancelotti was asked about the message from Valverde’s wife during his press conference, and he explained his thinking.

“What people think on social media… for me it’s very complicated,” the Real Madrid head coach said.

“I took him off because for me he wasn’t 100%. He had back problems. It seemed like he had recovered because he trained well yesterday but it seemed like he wasn’t at his best physical level, which is why I took him off.”

Real Madrid find themselves 17th in the Champions League table with six points, with a trip to Liverpool up next later this month, by which time there is no certainty that Ancelotti will still be in charge.
