Barcelona are set to be unleashed on the transfer market once again, potentially allowing them to land No.1 target Erling Haaland as the club has pulled another financial lever.

President Joan Laporta is working to strike a deal worth around €200 million that will see VIP seats at the refurbished Camp Nou sold off for a period of 20 years, working on a model that was previously utilised by Real Madrid.

Sport reports that the deal is expected to be finalised before the beginning of the January transfer window, which promises to revolutionise Barcelona’s season.

Dani Olmo to sign

Barcelona side will be able to register Dani Olmo for the second half of the season in the most immediate boost for the club.

Previously, there had been fears that the attacking midfielder, who has missed much of this season due to injury, would be forced to the periphery of the squad for non-European matches.

The Spain international is currently cleared for Champions League games and indeed scored in Barcelona’s previous outing against Brest, but he was only registered for LaLiga using loopholes surrounding an injury to Andreas Christensen, who will be back fit in January and so, without this lever, Dani Olmo wouldn't be able to play in LaLiga.

This new influx of money means that the Blaugrana can sign him to bolster their squad for the second half of the campaign.

Haaland now a viable target

In the longer term, this deal allows Barcelona to be more competitive in the transfer market and brings previously unattainable stars such as Manchester City's Erling Haaland and Nico Williams of Athletic Club onto their radar once again.

Haaland has reportedly been made the primary summer goal for the Blaugrana, who are looking for a long-term replacement for veteran striker Robert Lewandowski.

The Pole’s electric form this this season, however, could lead Barca to move instead for long-time target Nico Williams, who came close to joining the club in 2024. A great friend of Lamine Yamal, he is available for the bargain price of €58m, though a relatively mediocre campaign by his high standards does throw some doubt on whether the Catalans will still want him.

Why do Barcelona need this money to spend?

Barca have been wrestling with financial problems for several years due to astronomical debts they have been fighting to control. This has forced the club into a period of hardship during which LaLiga’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules restricted them to spending just 33% of what they brought in via transfer fees.

This new lever, however, will allow the Catalans to spend anything they bring in.

For example, if a player was sold under the previous rules for €100m, only €33m could be reinvested in the transfer market. Now Barcelona will be able to spend the full €100m on new signings.
