Lionel Messi wants to re-join Barcelona when his time at Inter Miami draws to a close, according to sensational reports in Spain.

The Argentina legend left Camp Nou to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in 2021, but he is now reportedly looking to secure a return to the club.

Messi has less than 12 months remaining on his current Inter Miami deal and Spanish outlet Relevo claim that he will push to re-join Barcelona due to his love for the club and the city.

The 37-year-old still views Barcelona as “home” and the Blaugrana would reportedly welcome his return, despite the emergence of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha’s recent upturn in form.

However, Inter Miami are determined to tie Messi down to a new contract, with the MLS side eager for the Argentine to extend his spell in Florida until the end of 2026 - largely due to the World Cup and the club’s imminent new stadium.

Lionel Messi to re-join Barcelona?

Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham has also confirmed Messi’s desire to return to Barcelona when his time in the MLS draws to a close.

“I would like Messi to live in Miami when he retires, but Leo told me that he only thinks about living near the Camp Nou,” Beckham admitted at the Economic Forum in Davos (as per GOAL).

“There is no player who loves Barcelona as much as he does. You can see the Barca crest on his leg and even on his water bottle.”

Messi scored 672 goals in 778 appearances for Barcelona, while he helped the club win 35 trophies during his time at Camp Nou, including the Champions League on four occasions.
