Real Madrid are reportedly set to face stern competition from Bayern Munich in their bid to sign Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The England international is widely expected to leave Anfield when his current contract expires at the end of June and a move to the Santiago Bernabeu has been touted as his most likely next step for several months.

Real Madrid are desperate to sign a new right-back following Dani Carvajal’s ACL injury and they have identified Alexander-Arnold as their primary transfer target for 2025.

The 26-year-old is yet to agree a contract extension with Liverpool and he is now able to reach a pre-contract agreement with Real Madrid ahead of a summer transfer.

However, Los Blancos aren’t the only club interested in signing Alexander-Arnold on a Bosman deal, with Bayern Munich emerging as contenders to land the Englisman, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.

Vincent Kompany’s side are actively searching for a new right-back ahead of the summer transfer window and they have set their sights on finalising an agreement to sign Alexander-Arnold.

Konrad Laimer, Sacha Boey and Raphael Guerreiro have all shared right-back duties at the Allianz Arena so far this season, and Bayern are eager to add Alexander-Arnold to their ranks in 2025 as Kompany looks for a permanent fix.

What has been said about Trent Alexander-Arnold?

News of Bayern’s interest in Alexander-Arnold comes after he received major criticism for his performance versus Manchester United.

The England star endured a torrid afternoon against Ruben Amorim’s side last weekend and Man Utd legend Roy Keane was eager to slam the 26-year-old for his below par defensive display.

“We talk about how brilliant Trent is going forward, but Trent’s defending today, my goodness, it’s like schoolboy stuff,” Keane told Sky Sports.

“There’s talk about him going to Real Madrid. The way he’s defending, he’s going to Tranmere Rovers after this! He’s got to do better.”
