Bild has announced that Bayern have decided to withdraw their contract offer for the Germany international midfielder, therefore making him available as a free agent as his contract expires in the summer.

Real Madrid are well placed to win the race but face some competition from Manchester City over the 30-year-old star, who has become renowned for his unrivalled consistency with the Allianz Arena outfit.

Kimmich would arrive at the Bernabeu to take over the duties that Toni Kroos performed before he retired in the summer of 2024. Kroos has been sorely missed since departing.

A new Galactico era

Should Real Madrid successfully sign Kimmich, he would represent another building block in an increasingly Galactico side.

Kylian Mbappe hooked up with Vini Jr and Rodrygo when he arrived on a free transfer last summer to complete an all-star attack, and Florentino Perez’s side will now focus on getting the defensive side of the team right.

An overhaul is required in the defence and hence Alexander-Arnold looks likely to be signed along with at least one centre-back.

By adding Kimmich to the midfield, the spine of the team will be instantly upgraded while landing such a high-quality player on a free transfer means that funds will be released to focus transfer spendings elsewhere in the side.
