Vinicius Junior will reportedly only sign a contract extension at Real Madrid if he usurps Kylian Mbappe as the club’s highest earner.

The Brazil international has just over two years remaining on his current deal at the Santiago Bernabeu and he has been heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League in recent months, amid significant interest from Al-Hilal.

However, Vinicius is willing to extend his stay at Real Madrid if his annual wage is increased to €20 million and he becomes the outright highest earner in Los Blancos’ first-team squad.

That is according to Spanish outlet Diario AS, who report that Vinicius currently earns a salary of €15m-per-year, with the Brazil star demanding an additional €5m per annum in order to snub Saudi Arabia and extend his Real Madrid contract.

Vinicius has scored 17 goals and provided 12 assists in 35 appearances across all competitions so far this season, while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €122.4m.

What has Vinicius Jr said about his contract situation?

Ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, Vinicius told reporters (via The Athletic): “I am very calm because I have a contract until 2027 and hopefully we can renew my contract as soon as possible.

“I am happy here, I am fulfilling my dream of playing with the best players, coach, president and fans in the world. I couldn’t be anywhere better than here.”

Vinicius added: “I am here to continue making history, everything the club and the president have given me. Hopefully I can keep scoring more goals, playing more games in this shirt.

“My dream as a child was to get here, now I have won and I can win much more and enter the history of this club, which is very complicated because many legends have passed through. I want to continue like them.”
