Nicolo Schira reports that talks are going well and Brazil are confident that they will appoint the Italian manager.

Brazil are currently without a manager after sacking Dorival Junior last month. They have been trying to appoint Ancelotti for over a year and were close to agreeing a deal with him prior to the start of the 2024/25 season. The likelihood is that Ancelotti will be appointed before the start of the FIFA Club World Cup in June.

As FootballTransfers reported last week, Saudi Arabia are also interested in hiring Ancelotti.

His former clubs AC Milan and AS Roma have also been touted as possible destinations if he were to return to Italy.

What did Cafu say?

Ancelotti’s possible appointment by the Selecao has been backed by Brazil legend Cafu.

“I worked with Ancelotti for 5 years at Milan and they were five wonderful years,” Cafu said.

“Ancelotti is not just a coach, he is a friend, a father, a companion, he understands football. If CBF chooses Ancelotti, the Seleção will be in good hands."

It is unanimously reported that Ancelotti will be sacked by Real Madrid at the end of the current season.

Following his side’s disappointing Champions League exit to Arsenal last week, Ancelotti admitted himself that he could be set to leave Real Madrid very soon.

“It could be this year, next year when my contract runs out...There's no problem about it,” Ancelotti said. “But when I am done here, I will be grateful to this club.

“It could be tomorrow, in one year, or in 10 years, but I will be grateful to this club. And that's it. Full stop.

“We have done very well in the last seasons but this year we have had to suffer. Things haven't gone as expected but it happens in sport because there are no unbeatable teams.”

Ancelotti has won 15 trophies across two spells at Real Madrid, including the Champions League and La Liga double last season.

Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso has been tipped to replace the Italian at the Santiago Bernabeu and Real Madrid may now intensify their pursuit of the former Los Blancos midfielder ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
