Tchouameni can match Modric at Real Madrid
Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has everything in his locker to not only become a key player for Real Madrid - but match the exploits of the great Luka Modric.
Tchouameni caught the eye this past season in Ligue 1, playing a key role as the principality side charged into the qualifying rounds of the Champions League with a third-placed finish.
Following the decision of Kylian Mbappe to remain at PSG in favour of a move to Real Madrid, the Bernabeu club turned their attention towards the 22-year-old before completing a deal worth more than €100 million.
Tchouameni can be Madrid's midfielder monster
Tchouameni’s transfer represents a major change of direction in Real Madrid’s transfer policy. While Mbappe is one of football’s most outstanding attacking players, the Rouen-born player is found far deeper on the field as a central midfielder.
It highlights the fact that there is no equivalent player to Mbappe who might have been available for Los Blancos this season and that they instead want to pour their resources into the midfield area. With Casemiro, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos all over 30, it is an area in need of evolution, a process that started last summer when Eduardo Camavinga was signed from Rennes.
While Camavinga made a positive impact in his debut campaign for the club, Tchouameni has the capacity to do likewise – and data analytics experts SciSports believe he has the potential to develop into a key player for the club.
After all, Tchouameni is a player who has very few clear weaknesses. He rates highly over the last season both in terms of his defensive and offensive contribution. Going forward, he has excelled in terms of his progressive passing and carries, while in a more defensive capacity, he has posted high numbers of tackles and aerials won, while his figure of 3.56 interceptions per game is an elite standard.
SciSports suggests that he will arrive as a rotation player but that he could attain a level comparable to the likes of Casemiro or Modric.
If this proves to be the case, the €100m that Real Madrid are ready to pay Monaco will seem like money well spent.
