In a match that saw Jurgen Klopp’s side pull ahead at the top of Group B with a three-point lead, the Anfield side were once again able to call upon their remarkable forward to stick the ball in the back of the net.

It took Salah just 18 minutes to put Porto to the sword, when the forward pounced on a rebound inside the opposing box and happily fired the ball into the back of the net to put Liverpool ahead.

Following a second from James Milner just before half time, Salah then put the game beyond any doubt on the hour mark when Curtis Jones steamed up the pitch and slipped the ball into the path of an unmarked Salah to tuck inside the near post.

Salah enjoying strong start to the season

While Liverpool fans will be used to seeing Salah put the ball in the back of the net, fans of the Reds will be particularly delighted with the form the Egyptian striker has shown so far this season.

Salah’s brace against Porto on Tuesday night was the player’s seventh and eighth goal in just eight games across all competitions. Add to that two assists and it certainly suggests that the player is in the form of his life.

Indeed, after Tuesday’s Champions League appearance, Salah is now averaging a goal or assists for Liverpool every 71.4 minutes this season. Which will delight Klopp and the Anfield faithful to no end.

Consolidation over shopping sprees

Aside from simply scoring goals and winning games, Salah’s form is also vindication of Liverpool’s transfer strategy in the summer of signing up key players to new contracts rather than spending a fortune on new players.

The Anfield side have looked settled and well prepared for the season ahead while rivals have struggled to implement new players and tactics without dropping points.

The only question that remains is when will Salah be the next Liverpool player to sign a new extension to his current contract, which expires in 2023. But for now fans of the club will just be delighted to see him look back to his very best.
