Bayern close in on Nunez as replacement for Barcelona target Lewandowski
Bayern Munich are set to move for Darwin Nunez as their replacement for Robert Lewandowski should the striker leave for Barcelona.
Nunez has been in prolific form for Benfica this season, having scored 25 goals in 25 league games, and has been linked with a host of Europe’s top clubs.
The Portuguese side have slapped a €100 million price tag on their talismanic forward but Bayern director Hasan Salihamidzic has reportedly sanctioned a move for the Uruguayan.
Sport reports Bayern are said to be exploring their options after Lewandowski informed them of his desire to leave this summer, with Barcelona heavily rumoured to have made the Pole their priority.
Who will Darwin Nunez play for next season?
Nunez has been scouted by just about every major club in Europe and the 22-year-old looks set to leave after two seasons in Portgual, where he joined as Benfica’s record signing.
The striker has also impressed in this season’s Champions League, scoring six times including twice in the quarter finals against Liverpool.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp praised Nunez during the tie and his side are rumoured to be competitors for his signature, along with Bayern and Manchester United.
Man Utd have reportedly identified Nunez as the player to spearhead their rebuild under incoming manager Erik ten Hag but the price tag could be a stumbling block to any side.

At 6 foot 2, Nunez would be an ideal replacement for Lewandowski should Bayern move on from their legendary forward this summer.
Lewandowski is entering into the final year of his contract and the club have said they want to keep him for another year but an exit could be agreed if the forward pushes for it.
Capable of playing out wide as well as up front, Nunez has been capped nine times for his country, scoring twice.
