PSG manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that he has not had any discussions with the Ligue 1 club about extending his contract.

The German manager joined the club in 2018 on a two-year contract, which was then extended by a further year in 2019.

Which now means Tuchel’s updated deal is set to expire at the end of this current season in 2020.

Reports in France have suggested that the German coach has no intention of renewing his contract with the Parisian club and his remarks when asked about an extension seems to suggest as much.

  • “We didn’t talk about an extension,” Tuchel told French broadcaster RMC. “We didn’t talk about my contract.”

“Does that change anything for me? No. It doesn’t change the way I work. When I train PSG, I think 100 percent of PSG, nothing else.

“It is not possible to think of anything else. The most important thing is to stay focused. This is a key phase for us.

“The situation is still the same anyway. Nothing has changed.”

Tuchel has had a complicated time at the French club since arriving in 2018, with many demanding more from the German manager due to the amount of money spent on signing top-class players for the club.

Although PSG sit top of Ligue 1 at the moment and are favourites to win a third, successive French title, Tuchel’s side have failed to win the Champions League in two years of trying.

In his first season, PSG came unstuck against Manchester United in the Last 16 and in his second, Tuchel’s side went all the way to the final before losing 1-0 to Bayern Munich.

Whether the German coach has a future with the French club – or indeed whether he wants to stay beyond the length of his current contract – will almost certainly come down to whether they can go one closer and lift the European Cup this season.
