PSG’s three transfer targets to replace Mbappé
Paris Saint-Germain hope and believe that they can convince Kylian Mbappé to sign a new contract at the Parc des Princes, yet there is still a big chance that the Frenchman could depart the club as a free agent in the summer of 2022. With that possibility in mind, sporting director Leonardo is already considering his contingency options.
REVEALED: The most valuable players in the world
According to Le10Sport, there are three main options for PSG in the event that Mbappé does move on next summer. They are Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski and Dušan Vlahović. Here comes an analysis of the likelihood or difficulties of signing each of these strikers.
Erling Haaland
It seems that Mbappé and Haaland are destined to be the leading forwards in world football over the next decade, so replacing one with the other would be an achievement if PSG can pull this off. The main problem with PSG’s pursuit of Haaland is that the Norwegian has a contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2024, so the Bundesliga club can command a significant transfer fee. PSG certainly have the financial means to purchase Haaland, but to lose Mbappé for free and then spend a huge amount for his replacement would be a blow - even for PSG - in terms of Financial Fair Play.
Robert Lewandowski
According to Le10Sport, Leonardo and PSG would turn to Lewandowski if they fail to land Haaland. The Polish forward will turn 34 years of age next summer and will only have one year remaining on his contract by that point, so Bayern Munich could look to cash in if the price is right. With 13 goals from 10 matches so far this season, the veteran centre-forward is as lethal as ever and would be a quality replacement for Mbappé, albeit a very different kind of player.

Dušan Vlahović
The third option who PSG have been linked with is Fiorentina striker Dušan Vlahović. Like Lewandowski, he has a contract until 2023. However, the 21-year-old has his entire career ahead of him and would be a much more costly option. There’s also the possibility of Vlahović putting pen to paper on a new contract in Florence, so his situation could change before next summer.
