Who wouldn’t want to work with Mbappe: Pochettino says PSG ace is happy at the club
Mauricio Pochettino believes Kylian Mbappe is currently happy at PSG and has praised his player by saying that every manager in the world would love to work with him.
Despite signing for the capital club for an initial €145m in 2017, rumours have never went away about where Mbappe would end up at the next stage of his career.
Although Mbappe has scored 12 goals in 12 starts in Ligue 1 this season and 14 in all competitions, he has been criticised for his recent performances, particularly since the appointment of Pochettino as head coach.
Pochettino, however, believes he is privileged to be working with the 22-year-old, and says the club is doing all they can to tie him to a new deal, with his current contract expiring in 2022.
“The club is working and making the effort to renew the players it considers important,” the former Tottenham boss explained to Cadena Ser.
“And it is clear that he is a player with enormous potential. What trainer wouldn’t want to train Mbappé for a long time? Kylian is very happy here in Paris.
“The other day, it was normal, it’s the frustration of not scoring,” he added in reference to Mbappe’s discontent against Angers in Ligue 1 at the weekend.
“He is 22 years old and this whole situation is normal. The whole team must help him to be his best. I have no doubt that Kylian enjoys being here in Paris.”
The future of Mbappe, and indeed Neymar, at PSG is linked to any potential future swoop for Lionel Messi.
The Argentine is out of contract at Barcelona and has expressed a desire to leave. However, if PSG were to take on his gargantuan wages, then they would almost certainly have to offload either Mbappe or Neymar due to the money they are currently on.
