Marquinhos hints at long-term PSG stay
Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos has suggested that he sees himself at the club in the distant future.
Brazil international defender Marquinhos moved to PSG from Roma in 2013 and has since established himself as part of the furniture. Moreover, the 26-year-old is now regarded as one of the finest defenders in the game.
Barcelona have been regularly linked to him in the past, but Marquinhos, who has played more than 300 times for PSG, has suggested that he has no plans to go anywhere due to his love of the city.
“This city illuminates me, inspires me, but for me, it is not limited to lovers, glamour or Fashion Week. This is the postcard image. The reality is that this is a real football city,” he told So Foot.
“Since I’ve been here, I’ve seen our supporters do amazing things, sometimes unreasonable, but always driven by their passion for PSG.
“Football belongs to the people, I want to see the Parc des Princes again with our fans because the supporters are part of the DNA of this club. PSG is a young club, but with a rich history and genuine roots.”
Marquinhos has endured a stop-star season due to a combination of injury and illness. He missed PSG’s first two league matches of the campaign due to Covid-19 but has suffered from adductor problems since. Presently, he is in a race against time to be fit for Sunday’s big match with Marseille.
PSG currently lie third in Ligue 1, three points behind league leaders Lille, but Marquinhos’ side continue to be hot favourites for the title due to the wealth of quality they have in their ranks.
