Mbappe drops major hint he will snub Real Madrid and stay at PSG
Kylian Mbappe has dropped a huge transfer hint that suggests he may be willing to reject Real Madrid's advances and stay at Paris Saint-Germain for a little longer.
With a brace against St Etienne on Saturday, Mbappe became PSG's second highest goal-scorer of all-time, overtaking the legendary Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Mbappe, 23, also provided a world-class assist in a victory that saw PSG extend their lead at the top of Ligue 1 to 16 points.
But, it was the goals that really mattered as the Frenchman netted his 155th and 156th goals for the club to go level with Ibrahmovic, with Edinson Cavani now the only man with more PSG strikes than him. The Uruguayan forward sits on 200 goals for the Parisians, leaving Mbappe with 44 goals to go.
After the win over St Etienne, Mbappe told L'Equipe how special it was to match Ibrahimovic's tally, and suggested he could be willing to stay at the club in order to beat Cavani's record.
What has Mbappe said?
"Ibra, when you consider what he's done here, it's symbolic. It's a high standard and I'm in an elite club [of players].
"I've equalled it and if there are no big problems, I'll overtake it. There remains Edi's record. We'll see how it goes. You can't dismiss the prospect of being the top scorer in PSG's history," he said.
With 44 goals left to go, it seems foolish to suggest Mbappe will "overtake" Cavani this season, which means he could well be staying at the Parc des Princes past this summer.
His current deal at PSG does expire at the end of this campaign, with multiple reports saying he's rejected a new deal in order to secure his dream move to Real Madrid.
Los Blancos are understood to have had a €200 million bid turned down by PSG on deadline day last summer, but have the opportunity to sign the Frenchman for free this summer if he decides to leave.
However, that may no longer be the case, with the opportunity to become PSG's record goal-scorer an attractive proposition for Mbappe.
The forward, who is four-and-a-half years into his spell at PSG, including his one-year loan deal before signing permanently, has netted 19 goals in the league and Champions League this season, including the winner against Real Madrid in the first-leg of their last-16 tie.
A banner was also unveiled for Mbappe by the PSG fans that reads: 'From Bondy to Paris, your story is written here' which is something that the Frenchman was delighted with. "It's nice to have the affection of people, the fans, we also play for this kind of thing," he said.
"There is of course this statistical performance side, but leaving an imprint, it creates a link, it touches me a lot. It's great to have the recognition of this family, that's why we play."
As things stand at the moment, however, Mbappe will become a free agent in July.
