Inter Miami owner David Beckham has been placed on high alert by Lionel Messi's situation at Paris Saint-Germain and his possible departure from the Ligue 1 giants.

Messi left Barcelona in 2021 following the Catalan club's financial issues, and joined former Blaugrana team-mate Neymar and several Argentine team-mates at PSG.

However, he has managed to score just two league goals all season, and couldn't prevent PSG's late Champions League exit to Real Madrid despite the Parisians holding a 2-0 aggregate lead heading into the latter stages of the second-leg.

Messi, along with Neymar, was booed by PSG fans upon his return to the Parc des Princes after that defeat, and it has stirred rumours about his future at the club.

With most clubs in world football unable to afford Messi's significant wages, potential destinations for the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner are few and far between. However, former Manchester United and Real Madrid star Beckham is reportedly keen on bringing Messi to his Major League Soccer side Inter Miami.

Beckham formed the club four years ago, but they currently sit bottom of the Eastern Conference after four games of the 2022 season. Beckham is keen to improve things for his side, and is said to be keeping a close eye on Messi's situation at PSG, with an eye to making an offer.

The 115-capped former England international has reportedly identified Messi, Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets as potential signings over the next few years. The quartet all played together at Barcelona until Suarez joined Atletico Madrid in 2020, and Beckham is keen to rekindle their relationship in the United States.

Spanish media publication Mundo Deportivo have reported this news and they believe that Suarez will be Inter Miami's first target given his contract at Atletico is set to expire this summer.

Both Alba and Messi will become free agents in 2023, while Busquets' contract at the Camp Nou doesn't expire until 2024.

Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas added fuel to the fire by telling the Miami Herald: "I am optimistic Messi will play in an Inter Miami shirt because I think it will complete the legacy of the greatest player in our generation and will meet with the ambitions of the owners of Inter Miami to build a world-class team.

"David and I have been working really hard, we have aspirations of bringing the best players here and Messi is a generational player, arguably the best player of all time."

Messi would link up with former Argentina team-mate Gonzalo Higuain if he were to join Inter Miami, with the ex-Juventus striker currently playing for Beckham's club.

Inter Miami are managed by Phil Neville, who used to manage England's female side, and are hopeful of bringing together the core of Barcelona's mid-2010 side in order to climb up the standings in the MLS.
