Xavi Simons is still one of the most highly rated midfield prospects in European football and he could be on the move this summer, given that his PSG contract is about to expire and given that the Ligue 1 leaders haven’t given him much reason to stay.

Used infrequently by Mauricio Pochettino this campaign, the 19-year-old playmaker could be ready to depart Paris in search of a new adventure. Speaking after a rare appearance against Montpellier on Saturday, the Dutchman said: "I still don't know what's next. I'm happy here at Paris Saint-Germain, the season will finish next week and then we'll see... but I'm happy here.”

Here, then, comes a look at some of the clubs who have been linked with Simons and who could make a move for him if he becomes a free agent.

Xavi Simons to Barcelona?

Simons was previously in the Barcelona academy, but controversially left La Masia for PSG at the age of 16. Barça do still rate him highly, though, and would welcome him back, so long as they don’t have to pay a transfer fee. Although the Blaugrana’s midfield is stacked, the potential departure of Frenkie de Jong could free up a spot.

Xavi Simons to Bayer Leverkusen?

Alongside Barcelona, the other club to express the most serious interest in Simons so far is Bayer Leverkusen. Die Werkself have a proud history of catapulting young talents to stardom, so a move to the German club could be an attractive one for the teenager.

Xavi Simons to Brighton?

Simons has admirers in the Premier League as well, with Brighton said to be one of them. Many of the English club’s recent signings from abroad have hit the ground running at the AMEX Stadium, so Brighton could be a good entry into the Premier League is Simons wants to play in England.

Xavi Simons to Southampton?

In total, there were four Premier League clubs linked with Simons earlier this year, when reports first emerged of his unease in Paris. As well as Brighton, the others were Southampton, Norwich and Watford. Having suffered relegation, Norwich and Watford are now out of the running, but Southampton remain a potential landing spot.

Xavi Simons to Rangers?

One of the surprise candidates to sign Simons are Rangers, who have been linked with him for a few months now. Giovanni van Bronckhorst reportedly wanted to make the Dutchman the cornerstone of his Rangers project and the Scottish club have become an increasingly attractive landing spot for Simons, having reached the Europa League final, where a win would grant direct access to next season's Champions League.
