Mbappe to leave PSG: The four clubs who could sign him
Kylian Mbappe’s transfer saga was believed to have ended this past summer, but it’s back on just five months after, as it’s emerged that he’s looking to leave Paris Saint-Germain in January.
The French star signed a new deal with the French club running for three years, according to the club, but tense relations between the player and Ligue 1 champions have led to reports he wants to leave.
Marca say that he wants to go, and this comes just a few days after disagreements with manager Christophe Galtier, which has further intensified his desire to leave.
So, which clubs could Mbappe move to in the near future?
Real Madrid
The obvious choice: Real Madrid have been Mbappe’s dream club and the club with the most interest in signing him over the years – they’ll certainly be linked with a move yet again.
According to reports from Marca, PSG are open to a sale to any club but Real Madrid, so that will be an interesting narrative in this tale.
Additionally, it would be interesting to see if Real Madrid move for a player who once rejected them previously, but of all clubs, this is the one Mbappe would most be keen on a move to.
Liverpool
The Marca reports also suggest that PSG would open to selling to Liverpool, who have had an interest in Mbappe in the past, but finances may stop this move from happening.
Mbappe would cost Liverpool a fortune – possibly even a world-record fee if he is to move in one of the next two transfer windows – and that’s something Liverpool may not be able to afford.
The Reds didn’t spend much this summer, and they may have some spare cash left over if an opportunity like this truly arises.
Chelsea
Chelsea have been unafraid to spend under their new ownership, they wish to sign a star, they’re focusing on younger players and they need a forward.
All the stars are lining up perfectly, and it’s something that Chelsea can pull off too – the Blues may truly be one of the top contenders for Mbappe’s signature.
If the opportunity arises and Real Madrid are out of the picture, then signing Mbappe may not be an improbably scenario.
Manchester City
Manchester City already have one world star in Erling Haaland, and very few clubs can match their financial capability, making Mbappe a possibility.
Combining Haaland and Mbappe in the same team could ruin competition for years, with arguably the two best players of the upcoming generation having already achieved so much in the game.
Mbappe has always wanted a clear football structure at PSG, and at Manchester City, he could well get that if he moves.
