Barcelona are keen to bring him back to the club and have reportedly been working on smoothening their relationship with him to get him back next year.

Elsewhere, it was reported earlier this week that Major League Soccer side Inter Miami – co-owned by David Beckham – are working on a deal to bring Messi to America and are confident.

Now, Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has provided an update and it’ll be an encouraging one for PSG as he thinks Messi will stay in Europe.

PSG might just keep Messi

Speaking on The Football News Show, Balague felt Messi isn’t ready to abandon the elite side of football and wants to continue in Europe.

“PSG goes to Leo and says listen, ‘You have to sign today,'” Balague said. “‘For whatever reason, you have to sign today. This one plus one.’ Leo Messi will sign to stay at PSG. But he said to his entourage to PSG ‘I don’t want to think about it. Let’s do it after the World Cup.’

“Then MLS. They are also ready for him. I think his dad has been in Miami many times, has met people at the club and the intention is that he goes to Miami. But I think Sergio Busquets will get there next season. And I don’t think Leo Messi is ready to actually abandon the elite.”

Barcelona are hopeful of signing Messi and felt they were best placed to get him but their poor financial condition combined with their Champions League exit has hampered their hopes.

Inter Miami are still in the race and given Messi’s interest in America, they could feel they have the upper hand and may be in competition with PSG.
