Kylian Mbappe’s contract standoff with PSG is playing into the hands of Real Madrid, and it has emerged that the Spanish club could even sign the France international for nothing this summer.

Mbappe has been offered an incredible contract by Al-Hilal of the Saudi Pro League, with the suggestion that the 24-year-old could offer up to €700 million for just a single season in the Gulf after which he would be free to complete his dream move to Madrid.

But the France attacker has turned down the deal, with those close to him indicating that he would rather spend the season on the bench at PSG.

The Ligue 1 champions, meanwhile, have been warned they could be wandering into a legal minefield that could see Mbappe released from his contract immediately.

“If harassment and discriminatory behaviour is confirmed, termination of the contract is possible,” Italian lawyer Mattia Grassani told TvPlay. “Mbappe can be released if the behaviour is not limited to not being called up for a league match and constitutes a repeated lack of consideration for the player and isolation due to an absolutely clear reason: his desire not to renew his contract.

“Mbappe could get the termination of his contract, significant financial compensation and the freedom to sign with any other club.”

Mbappe deadline

Grassani went on to confirm that there is a very definite date that PSG must resolve the issue by.

“If Mbappe is prevented from carrying out activities with the first team – training, meetings with coaches, matches – until 13 August, it will be necessary to appeal to the French sports courts.

“It’s a soap opera and we are only at the beginning.”

PSG, meanwhile, are sure of their legal position, according to The Athletic, and believe the legal precedents set previously with Hatem Ben Arfa and Adrien Rabiot will protect them in this case.
