Kylian Mbappe’s immediate future will be decided on Transfer Deadline Day, when it is expected that PSG retain the services of the France international superstar.

There have been late rumblings that Real Madrid could make a dramatic final attempt to sign the 24-year-old before the window shuts late on Friday, but the balance of probability is now that Mbappe gets his wish and remains at PSG until next summer.

At that point, he is destined to become a free agent but there are increasingly rumours that he will sign a new contract with Les Parisiens that will give him an exit clause in 2024. This promises to be the new chapter in his long-running dispute over his PSG future and it is less clear when this one might end.

According to RMC, what is described as ‘Operation Seduction’ has been a success for PSG.

Neymar and Lionel Messi have gone and Marco Verratti may follow. PSG have signed Ousmane Dembele and Lucas Hernandez in the type of deals Mbappe expected when he signed a two-year contract extension last summer, when he was jokingly branded the club’s sporting director. These transfers have been geared up to please the Bondy native.

Now the big question is: will Mbappe sign a new PSG contract?

Mbappe to sign new PSG contract?

Discussions have resumed over an extension following Mbappe’s return to first-team training a couple of weeks ago after he was frozen out of the squad during preseason and for the first Ligue 1 match of the campaign against Lorient.

“Kylian is a PSG player. We have very good discussions with him, he is a magnificent player, as a person and as a professional,” Nasser Al-Khelaifi told RMC following the Champions League draw on Thursday.

Mbappe is set to remain at PSG for the season, but for how much more is unclear.

The transfer window may be ending, but the Mbappe soap opera certainly is not.
