Both superstars left Parc des Princes this summer, with Neymar completing a €90 million move to Al-Hilal after Messi had departed on a free transfer to Inter Miami, where he has since thrived.

They were on huge wages at PSG but Neymar spoke out against the Ligue 1 club.

“I was very happy for the year Messi had, but at the same time very sad because he lived both sides of the coin, went to heaven with the Argentina national team, won everything in recent years, and with Paris lived a hell, we lived a hell, both he and I,” he claimed to Ge.Globo.

“We did our best, we are champions, we tried to write history. That’s why we played together, to write history. But unfortunately it didn’t happen.”

Arsenal legend hits out at Neymar

PSG offered a response indicating that “the two players wanted to stay”. At the same time, Robert Pires, a 1998 World Cup winner who enjoyed legendary status during his time with Arsenal in the Premier League, has hit out at the duo.

Speaking to Canal+, he said: “I call them cry-babies. You're a professional player and you have to know how to handle pressure.

“When you're good, you're happy to receive praise and when you're not good, it's part of the game.

“We were all criticised, including me. When I arrived at Arsenal, people said: 'Who is he? He's here to replace Marc Overmars, he's rubbish'. I continued to work and it paid off in the end.”

Neymar and Messi both struggled to endear themselves to the PSG supporters, with fans even gathering outside the Brazilian’s house at one point to chant abuse while the Barcelona legend was jeered at Parc des Princes on occasion, with the perception being that he was not working hard enough for the team.
