Kylian Mbappe’s performance for PSG against Newcastle in the Champions League has seen the superstar take a pounding in the local media.

PSG were humbled 4-1 at St James’ Park in their second European outing of the season, which came on the heels of a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund.

Since beating BVB, though, Luis Enrique’s side were held 0-0 by Ligue 1’s bottom side Clermont last weekend and are only lying fifth in the standings.

It is a run in which Mbappe has failed to add to his eight goals this season, and his attitude in the match against Newcastle has been questioned.

L’Equipe’s headline on the front page of the paper was simply “Disillusionment” with an image of Mbappe looking lost.

Indeed, he was given a rating of just 2/10 by the paper and described him as trying to influence the game “as a leader, which he is not”.

For Le Figaro, the striker was simple “non-existent”.

’Mbappe a leader in debauchery’

What’s more, the 24-year-old’s lifestyle was targeted by RMC journalist Daniel Riolo.

“I remember Mbappe’s famous quote last year against Neymar: ‘We have to eat well, sleep well,’” Riolo said.

“Mbappe had a lousy preparation when he was frozen out by PSG, but when you prepare like that, you work and go out a little less.

Mbappe is the leader of the biggest debauchery evenings in Paris at the moment!
- Daniel Riolo (RMC)

“Because where Mbappe is becoming a great leader, he is the leader of the biggest debauchery evenings in Paris at the moment! The parties Mbappe is having in Paris and the reputation he is making throughout the city with all the people talking, he’s going to land on his ass soon.

“Pay attention to what Mbappe is becoming. And look out for what people start saying about him everywhere.”

With rumours still linking Mbappe with a move to Real Madrid as a free agent next summer, his commitment to PSG remains a source of significant scrutiny and any repeat on his Newcastle's performance is likely to be met with similar criticism.
