Kylian Mbappe continues to be the subject of transfer rumours linking him with a move to Real Madrid next summer but the feeling in France is increasingly that the PSG striker will stay exactly where he is.

Mbappe spent the summer in dispute with the Ligue 1 champions to such an extent that he was frozen out of a preseason tour and even missed the opening league match of the season after refusing to take up the option of a one-year extension in his contract.

Although he refused transfer propositions last season, including a world-record bid from the Saudi Pro League, this led to renewed rumours that the forward will leave the club for Real Madrid in the summer of 2024, when he will be a free agent.

The feeling is now, however, that the 24-year-old is likely to stay in Paris.

“It’s a certainty, Mbappé has not made his decision over his future. Nothing is decided,” former PSG player and leading pundit Jerome Rothen told RMC. “He does not know today whether he is going to stay or leave. When I see him, and when I hear him with his teammates, he is much happier than last year.

“There are signs that can’t be ignored. In fact, anything can happen today. I have a feeling. I think that everything that is happening at the club today is pleasing him. He is certainly finding fulfilment that he had lost a little over the last few months at Paris Saint-Germain.”

Real Madrid distancing themselves from Mbappe

Reports from Spain tend to back this tendency up. Real Madrid’s interest in Mbappe seems to come from a distance, with talk of other major transfer targets, most notably Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, increasingly prevalent.

Mbappe has been in excellent form for PSG this season, scoring 15 goals in 15 games, despite his disrupted preseason.
