Head coach Luis Enrique, who has often left Mbappe on the bench in recent weeks following his announcement that he will leave PSG and the implication that he will join Real Madrid on a free transfer, has said that he will “of course” start the forward in the showpiece event.

This will likely be the France international’s last dance in his homeland, and before the match, he gave a heartfelt goodbye speech to the staff of the club, which left many in tears as he pledged to keep an eye out for the club’s results in future.

As reported by Le Parisien, Mbappe said: “Your only obsession is that we, the players as well as the staff, are well. For that and on behalf of all the players, I say thank you.

“You are the ones who keeps the club alive. This club, without you, is nothing. Without me, it will continue to exist because PSG will always buy great players, the players will always want to come. But without you, there would be no PSG.

“Thank you all for coming and good luck to everyone for the future. I'll keep an eye on you, no matter what. Thank you so much.”

Mbappe’s ‘frosty’ Al-Khelaifi relationship

Mbappe’s relationship with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is not set to end so cordially, with the pair having reportedly had a row prior to the recent Ligue 1 fixture against Toulouse over the striker’s failure to thank the president for his work over the last seven years.

L’Equipe describes the relationship between the pair as “frosty” after Al-Khelaifi tried different approaches to keep Mbappe at the club.

“You cannot harm PSG”, “you can’t leave for free and strengthen our biggest rival”, “all the big players, Bellingham, Kane, are sold leaving money for their club”, “you’re going to legitimise the Super League” are some of the arguments put forward to Mbappe as to why he should not make the move.

But the striker is set to depart, with Real Madrid his destination in the summer.

Al-Khelaifi has previously told Mbappe that even if he left, the PSG door would still be open for him. It remains to be seen if this is truly the case.
