Dominik Szoboszlai: Arsenal and AC Milan target rated
The race for Dominik Szoboszlai is heating up, with AC Milan and RB Leipzig believed to have joined Arsenal in expressing an interest.
The RB Salzburg starlet’s fine start to the new season, particularly in the Champions League, has not gone unnoticed.
And it surely won’t be long until he follows in the footsteps of Erling Haaland and Takumi Minamino, swapping the Austrian top-flight for one of Europe’s top leagues.
Primarily deployed as an attacking midfielder, Szoboszlai has offered a consistent goal threat since breaking through at Salzburg.
In his 49 Austrian Bundesliga appearances so far, the Hungarian has found the back of the net 13 times – a stat made all the more impressive by the fact he has made just 30 starts.
Szoboszlai has also laid on 17 assists, showing he is capable of being a major creative force at the top of the midfield.
The 20-year-old is no flat track bully, either, having scored five goals in 10 Champions League games in the last two seasons.
The underlying numbers appear to show that return to be sustainable, with his average of 3.5 shots per 90 minutes last season more than any other attacking midfielder in the division managed.
His 22.8 passes in the final third per match also places him firmly in the league’s elite.
It remains to be seen, of course, whether Szoboszlai can translate this form to the Bundesliga, Premier League or Serie A.
But both his numbers and the success of Salzburg’s recent exports suggests the midfielder’s suitors have nothing to be worried about.
