Man Utd hoping to take advantage of exceptional ‘circumstances’ to sign Eriksen
Man Utd have reportedly had a loan offer rejected by Inter for their attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen.
Eriksen joined the Italian giants just 12 months ago in a £16.9m move, but things haven’t worked out for the Denmark international in Serie A.
According to Ian McGarry of the Transfer Window podcast, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have made a bid to take the 28-year-old on loan by offering to pay £1.33m of his £3.55m wage packet.
Eriksen made 17 league appearances under Antonio Conte last season, scoring one goal and providing two assists. However, he’s seen his game time significantly limited throughout 2020/21 having made just four Serie A starts, and has failed to register a single goal or assist in all competitions.
In response to McGarry’s news that the Red Devils had made an offer, journalist Duncan Castles replied: “That offer that you were talking about and those discussions with Manchester United is one that would be laughed out of court in a normal window, in normal circumstances.
“‘You want us to give you a player who has been a top performer in the Premier League, and get us to pay a majority of his salary’, it would be a straight blank no.
“But why not chance your arm? Knowing that Inter want to offload him, knowing that he wants to play football and knowing I think that there isn’t really looking like an option for Inter to sell him in this window.
“Therefore, maybe you can get a player of Eriksen’s quality to add to your squad for what would be, if Inter were to accept that offer, very cheap wages and just a little bit of extra insurance for the rest of the season.”
Man Utd are currently top of the Premier League table, two points above their local rivals Man City, although Pep Guardiola’s side have a game in hand.
Eriksen could be set to join the Old Trafford outfit and aid their quest for a first top-flight title since 2013.
