Real Madrid move my biggest objective, Milinkovic-Savic admits
Real Madrid transfer target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic of Lazio has revealed that he’d like to play for the club one day.
The Spanish side have been linked repeatedly with a move for the Serbian over the last several years, but as of yet it has failed to materialise.
Milinkovic-Savic has grown into one of Lazio’s key figures since Simone Inzaghi took charge of the Biancocelesti in 2016, and the 26-year-old has admitted that he’d like to join Los Blancos.
Speaking on Serbian TV station TV Nova, he confessed his desire to play for Madrid at some stage in his career.
“In the Champions League, hard work awaits us. To tell the truth, I wanted to play against Real Madrid, in order to exchange shirts,” stated Milinkovic-Savic.
“Having said that, I think we can play well against Bayern Munich. I dreamed of playing for Real Madrid since I was a child.
“This is the biggest objective of my career, and I will do everything to reach it.”
Milinkovic-Savic’s contract with Lazio expires in June 2024, and is thought to be valued at around the €100 million mark by president Claudio Lotito.
Given Real Madrid’s precarious financial situation, it remains to be seen whether they will make a formal bid for the Serbian.
The midfielder joined Lazio in the summer of 2015 from Belgian side Genk and won the Coppa Italia in 2018/19 as they beat Atalanta 2-0 in the final.
Milinkovic-Savic has also won two Italian Super Cups during his spell in the capital.
He’s also been linked with moves to Juventus, PSG and Manchester United in the past.
Should Lazio finish outside of the top four this season, then the club may be forced into selling their most-prized asset.
Milinkovic-Savic was voted as Serie A’s best midfielder in 2018/19. He’s made 230 appearances for Lazio in all competitions, scoring 43 goals and providing 34 assists.
