Why Man Utd’s Marcus Rashford isn’t moving to Juventus or Barcelona
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has been linked with a move to European heavyweights Barcelona and Juventus, but neither deal is likely to occur.
According to Sport, the Daily Mirror are reporting that the La Liga giants and the reigning Serie A champions are lining up a move for one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s key men. The 23-year-old attacker has established himself as a pivotal part of this United side since making his debut back in 2016, and it would take an enormous fee to prize him away from his boyhood club.
Therefore, given Barca’s dire financial state, where it was revealed the Blaugrana have liabilities of €1.173 billion, it is almost impossible for this potential transfer to become a reality. The Catalan club have serious off-field issues that need resolving before they can consider bringing any elite players to the Camp Nou again.
Rashford currently has 18 months left to run on his current £200,000-per week contract, and the Red Devils also have the option to extend that agreement by a further year, increasing his market value significantly.
The prospect of the England international moving to Juventus then is equally as unlikely. While Andrea Pirlo’s side could raise significant funds via the sale of the highly-rated Paulo Dybala, who has been linked with a departure from Turin for several transfer windows now, the likelihood of Juve acquiring the nine-figure sum required is slim.
It’s likely that the majority of Europe’s top teams regularly keep an eye on Rashford’s performances and progress, given his outstanding quality and world-class potential, but there are very few who are in a position to take him away from Old Trafford.
Rashford has won the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League all on one occasion during his career with United and he’ll be keen to fire the 20-time English champions back to the top of the Premier League standings before any potential exit.
