Manchester United currently have Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani as their out-and-out forwards, and need someone more youthful to lead their attack for the next few years.

Several clubs have shown interest in the Argentine in recent months, including United’s Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who are currently managed by former Inter manager, Antonio Conte, as well as Inter’s league rivals Juventus.

Despite the departure of leading man Romelu Lukaku, Martinez has had another stellar season with Inter, scoring 21 goals across all competitions – his joint-best season record.

Out of that, 17 goals have come in the league, which is also his joint-best record in Serie A, matching with last season’s tally.

Martinez’s has been in top form in recent weeks as Inter continue their push to retain their Serie A title – in his last 10 matches for the club, he has scored nine goals.

Over the course of his Inter career, Martinez has scored 70 goals across 177 appearances, having joined the club in the 2018-19 season.

Prior to that, the 24-year-old started his career at Argentina’s Racing Club, which is where he played at since he was a child.

In addition to his club career, Martinez has made 37 appearances for his national team, having made his debut in 2018, and has a decent record of 19 goals in those matches.

He has been a mainstay with the national team in that period, and was a crucial part of the team’s Copa America success in the summer of 2021, where he scored thrice in the tournament to end Argentina’s 28-year trophy drought.

What is Martinez's transfer value?

According to the Daily Express, Manchester United have offered £42 million and Anthony Martial to make a move for the Argentine forward possible.
