Serie A Team of the Season so far, starring Kvaratskhelia and Dybala
The Italian Serie A has been arguably the most competitive league in Europe over the last few years but one team is threatening to run away with the Scudetto in 2022-23.
Napoli are eight points clear at the top of the table going into 2023 and are looking good to win their first Scudetto since 1990.
Naturally, the Partenopei dominate our Serie A Team of the Season, although Juventus, Inter, Roma and little Empoli are also represented.

Our team lines up in a 4-3-3 formation.
Guglielmo Vicario (Empoli)
Lazio’s Ivan Provedel will feel hard done-by not being selected having kept nine clean sheets in 15 games for a Lazio team that have the second best defensive record in Serie A.
But he is just pipped to the goalkeeper position by Empoli revelation Vicario. The 26-year-old has made the most big saves in Serie A this season by a long distance, and has saved two of the three penalties he’s faced - confirming his reputation as a penalty specialist.
He has commanded his box brilliantly and also reads the game superbly, with more interceptions than any goalkeeper. No wonder he is being linked with a move to Juventus in 2023.
Giovanni Di Lorenzo (Napoli)
The best right-back in Serie A so far this season is Napoli captain Giovanni DI Lorenzo, who has led the side expertly at the back.
Fast, aggressive and excellent in the air, Di Lorenzo has played every game for Napoli in Serie A and the Champions League.
He has also been useful going forward, scoring one goal and providing three assists.
Kim Min-Jae (Napoli)
Napoli fans feared the worst when their star defender Kalidou Koulibaly was sold to Chelsea this past summer, having been the best centre back in Serie A for much of his eight years at the club.
But South Korea star Kim has been an absolute revelation since arriving from Fenerbahce, and Napoli haven’t missed Koulibaly at all.
A beast in the air, he has the most aerial challenges in Serie A, the third most interceptions and the fourth most ball recoveries. He has also scored two goals and has been the best defender in the league so far.
Bremer (Juventus)
Juventus have had another miserable season both on and off the pitch. They have been battling just to make it into the top four and were knocked out in the group stage of the Champions League.
One of the few bright lights of their campaign has been Bremer, who Juventus snatched from Inter’s grasp by signing him from Torino in the summer.
The Brazilian has been a rock at the back for a Juventus team that has only conceded seven Serie A goals, keeping six clean sheets in a row.
Federico Dimarco (Inter)
When Federico Dimarco returned to Inter a year ago after a series of loan moves, very few expected him to make a career of it at San Siro.
But the left wing-back has proven everyone wrong and is now even a starter for the Italy national team.
His biggest weapon is his left foot, which is one of the most powerful and accurate in the world when it comes to crossing and shooting. His delivery is world class and he has scored three goals and delivered two assists this season already.
Stanislav Lobotka (Napoli)
Stanislav Lobotka is not a player who stands out tangibly when it comes to statistics.
He doesn’t score many goals, he doesn’t assist much and you won’t see many highlight reels of him.
But no one in Serie A is better at keeping the ball and conducting the play from deep, and no midfielder is better at beating the first line of press.
Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa (Napoli)
Anguissa was tipped for big things earlier in his career, but it is at Napoli that he has exploded into one of the most feared midfielders in Europe.
Under manager Luciano Spalletti, the Cameroonian has developed into the complete midfielder. Physically he is a monster, but he has improved so much technically and offensively.
This season, Anguissa is now adding goals to his game and he has three goals and seven assists to his name.
Piotr Zielinski (Napoli)
There are a number of midfielders who will feel they deserve a place in our best XI, particularly Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, the resurrected Niccolo Barella and Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot.
But Napoli’s midfield has been so perfect this season that it is impossible not to pick an-all Partenopei trio.
Piotr Zielinski is posting career-high numbers this season, with three goals and five assists in Serie A and an incredible six goals and seven assists in all competitions.
Paulo Dybala (Roma)
Juventus released Paulo Dybala at the end of last season when his contract expired, and there wasn’t a great deal of interest from major clubs.
Roma took a gamble on a player who has been increasingly injury-prone in recent years.
Dybala has still suffered with injuries in Roma but has been majestic when he has played. With five goals and two assists, he has carried Roma at times.
There are still few natural talents quite like Dybala and he just won the World Cup, scoring a penalty in the final shootout win over France.
Victor Osimhen (Napoli)
Osimhen has missed one third of the Serie A season so far with injury and is still the top scorer in the league.
That demonstrates just how prolific the Nigerian has been, having scored nine goals in 10 starts. He has also contributed two assists.
Osimhen is the perfect modern attacker, pressing ferociously from the front and a mix of power, pace and devastating attacking prowess - whether it is with his back to goal or making runs in behind. The best striker in Serie A.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (Napoli)
Osimhen may have been the best striker in Serie A, but Kvaratskhelia has been undoubtedly the best player overall in the league.
The Georgian winger has been unplayable ever since arriving from Dinamo Batumi this past summer for just €10 million.
A dribbling machine, Kvaratskhelia dominates almost every attacking category in Serie A. He has the most dribbles, most chances created, most key passes, most man-of-the-match displays.
His six goals and five assists have been key to taking Napoli to the top of Serie A. A potential Ballon d’Or contender in the future.
