Barcelona’s hopes of offloading Sergino Dest this summer have been given a huge boost following news that PSV Eindhoven are closing to agreeing a loan deal for the USA international.

Dest, 22, spent last season on loan at Serie A giants AC Milan and made 14 appearances for the Rossoneri as they reached the Champions League semi-finals.

However, the San Siro side decided against making the move permanent and he returned to Camp Nou this summer.

He has been heavily linked with a move away all window as Xavi does not see him as part of Barca’s future plans, but a suitable destination has not emerged until now.

Dutch reporter Rik Elfrink has reported that Dest is close to joining PSV on a season-long loan for the 2023-24 campaign. The USMNT star will undergo his medical in the Netherlands within the next 24 hours ahead of completing his return to Holland.

The defender came through the famous Ajax academy and made 38 senior appearances before joining Barcelona for €21 million in 2020.

Dest to PSV?

PSV will have an option to sign Dest permanently for €10m next summer, but they will not be obliged to purchase the 22-year-old.

The Eredivisie club have signed Noa Lang, Jerdy Schouten and Ricardo Pepi on permanent deals so far this window, while Malik Tillman has joined on loan from Bayern Munich.

They have, however, lost five players since the summer window opened, including Xavi Simons who was re-signed by Paris Saint-Germain for €4m. He has now been loaned out to RB Leipzig for the season.

According to Gerard Romero, Barcelona could be forced to pay 40% of Dest’s wages if he is to join PSV, while Nice are also interested in signing the defender.

Sport have reported that Dest has until 22 August to make a decision on which club he will join, but it seems likely he will sign a one-year loan deal at PSV.
