Napoli have issued a club statement to reveal that talks with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia regarding a new contract are not true, stating that reports of negotiations are “bullsh*t.”

Kvaratskhelia, 22, enjoyed a breakout year in Naples last season as he scored 14 goals and provided 17 assists in his first campaign at Napoli following his €10 million move from Dinamo Batumi in 2022.

The Georgian international, who was dubbed ‘Kvaradona’ during his first 12 months at Napoli, still has four years left on his contract at the Serie A giants, but he has been linked with a move away.

That will come as little surprise given his form in 2022-23, with Manchester City keeping tabs on him during last season. A move to the Etihad Stadium is perhaps unlikely now, however, following their summer purchase of Jeremy Doku.

Real Madrid have been linked too as Kvaratskhelia's father has previously admitted his son's dream is to win the Champions League with Los Blancos.

Arsenal are also interested and in July, FootballTransfers exclusively revealed that the Gunners were seeking a move for the Georgia star. The club have a strong working relationship with Napoli’s sporting director, Mauro Meluso thanks to his time at Spezia.

Meluso negotiated with Arsenal in January 2023 in a deal that saw Jakub Kiwior from Spezia.

Italian media have reported that Kvaratskhelia has been offered a fresh contract in Naples, while some suggestions say he would like a release clause included in any new deal.

However, Napoli themselves have released a statement to state that negotiations with the 22-year-old are not ongoing.

What has been said?

“Some media continue to tell, having the footballer's agents as their only source, of alleged negotiations in progress for the renewal of Kvaratskhelia. It's about "bullsh*t",” Napoli posted on Twitter.

“No one from Napoli has ever talked about the possible renewal of the player (whose contract expires in 4 years). Neither Mauro Meluso, nor Maurizio Micheli, nor Aurelio de Laurentiis, nor Andrea Chiavelli did it.”
