Rashford or Walker: Brexit FORCES huge AC Milan decision
AC Milan are in transfer talks with Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford and Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker, but the Serie A club will only be able to land one of the England internationals.
Brexit regulations will prevent the Rossoneri from snapping up both players, despite the San Siro outfit strongly in the running for both.
Rashford and Walker have each expressed an interest for a change of scene this January, but one is bound to be left disappointed as they cannot both leave for Milan.
The agents of the Man Utd attacker have been in talks with the Serie A outfit for several days, yet the case of Walker has suddenly accelerated due to Man City manager Pep Guardiola admitting that the player wants to depart.
Why Rashford and Walker cannot both sign for Milan
Serie A’s rules regarding the signing of British players have become very specific following the UK’s departure from the EU, known as Brexit.
Last season, it was decided that players from Britain would be treated in the same way as those from the EU and they would, therefore, not count towards foreign quotas in Serie A.
For the 2024/25 season, however, there has been a tweak to rules in Italy that means that Serie A clubs can now only register one British player per transfer window.
As such, Milan can only sign one of the pair even if both agree to make the move. They will, therefore, have to make a decision which deal to prioritise in the days ahead.
Although Napoli signed Scotland internationals Scott McTominay from Man Utd and Billy Gilmour from Brighton in the summer, these moves pre-date the new rules being enforced shortly before the start of the 2024/25 season.
