EXCLUSIVE: Santi Gimenez’s stance on Chelsea and Real Madrid transfer revealed
Santiago Gimenez’s entourage do not intend to push for the Feyenoord striker to be transferred during the January transfer window, FootballTransfers can exclusively reveal.
The Mexico international forward has attracted interest from a string of major clubs following an exceptional start to the season both in the Eredivisie and in Europe for the Dutch champions.
Chelsea and Real Madrid are both pushing to sign the 22-year-old attacker, with both clubs in search of a prolific scorer to support their below-par attacking lines. But there is also interest from Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Inter, Real Madrid and Barcelona among others.
His talents were underlined as he netted a hat-trick in Feyenoord’s 4-2 win over Excelsior, thereby maintaining their perfect record in the Eredivisie but also ending a personal ‘barren spell’ that had stretched to four matches without a goal.
This sequence came off the back of a strong start to the season that had seen him net 16 times and deliver three assists in 13 matches in the top flight.
Unsurprisingly, Feyenoord do not want to let go of their prized asset as they intend to challenge for honours in the second half of the campaign, and FootballTransfers can confirm it is the player’s intention not to push for a transfer.
What is Santiago Gimenez’s January plan?
Both Santiago Gimenez and his entourage are very happy with their situation at Feyenoord and, as they have repeated on different occasions, they are in no hurry to leave the Rotterdam club.
This runs contrary to some reports where it was stated that Santi's father and representative is in the Netherlands to "discuss" the sale of the player this winter.
It is evident that the race for Gimenez is becoming increasingly serious, but it will also be important for the player to make the best decision for his development. This will take patience and the forward will now show this.
