'Neymar will come' - Club president makes astonishing transfer claim
Santos president Marcelo Teixeira made the astonishing claim that Neymar would join the side.
The Al-Hilal superstar Neymar is currently on the sidelines after undergoing surgery for an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus injury, which he suffered four months ago. During his time off, the former Barcelona star was spotted cheering for the Brazilian outfit during their 1-0 win against the Corinthians. The club even posted his outing there on their Instagram page.
His appearance has sparked rumours that he would make a return to the club he began his career.
Last summer, Neymar signed a two-year contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, following an exit from Paris Saint-Germain, the club he played for six years. But his time in Saudi Arabia hasn’t gone well so far - he’s scored just one goal and provided two assists in five matches before an injury on international duty with Brazil.
Will Neymar join Santos again?
And now it appears that a move back to his home country is on the cards. Speaking to ESPN Brazil, Teixeria spoke about his brief meeting with Neymar, saying that he is hopeful of the 31-year-old coming back to Santos one day.
The president said: “The conversation was very brief, but quick conversations are often the most effective. To play here, he needs to recover well. He will continue his experience there and then come.”
While the Santos President did not address the possibility or timing of Neymar Jr's return to his childhood club, the combination of frequent injuries and a decline in form while playing for the Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal might accelerate his anticipated triumphant comeback to his hometown club.
