Who is Calvin Ramsay? Liverpool's £6.5m signing from Aberdeen
Liverpool have signed wonderkid Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen for a deal in the region of £6.5 million.
The 18-year-old right-back has become one of Scottish football’s most highly regarded young players over the past season, with the defender attracting attention from myriad of clubs in the Premier League and abroad.
With Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney having impressed in the Premier League and Nathan Patterson departing Rangers for Everton in January 2022, Ramsay is the next young Scottish defender to potentially make the grade in England.
And Liverpool are the club that has won the race for the talented youngster.
What position does Ramsay play in?
Whether playing for the Scotland national team youth sides or his hometown club, Ramsay has always been a right-sided full-back who can play as a wing-back in certain systems.

How good is Ramsay?
Aberdeen rate Ramsay as an "elite" young player. Chairman Dave Cormack has even said: "There are not many right back at his age like him, doing what he does. Look at the data and all the clubs look at the same scouting systems. He is in the elite upper bracket, right up there, for a young right-back in Europe
“People are seeing that and that is why we believe there will be a lot of interest."
Ramsay broke onto the scene in Scottish football towards the end of the 2020/21 campaign, when the defender was given a handful of starts in the Scottish Premiership split and in Aberdeen’s Scottish Cup run.
That was seemingly enough for new manager Stephen Glass to promote Ramsay to the first team as a regular starter and as such the young Scot has been an ever-present member of the Dons starting XI in European qualifiers and the Premiership since.

The young full-back thrives when given space to run into with and without the ball, which is shown in his healthy assist count. Whether as a full-back or a more advanced wing-back, Ramsay has more than enough in the engine to trouble most teams.
In April 2022, he was named the Young Player of the Year in Scotland.
What clubs were interested in Ramsay?
While young talents in the Scottish game are often scooped up by Celtic or Rangers, this time it was the Premier League that showed the most interest.
Manchester United and Liverpool had been watching attentively since Ramsay broke into the Pittodrie side’s first team.
Leicester, Leeds, Bologna and Eintracht Frankfurt had all been watching the teenager as well, but it is Liverpool who have won the race.
He will come in as back-up to Trent Alexander-Arnold.
