Revealed: The Championship club worth more than Liverpool and Arsenal combined
Premier League clubs spent a record €2.2 billion in the summer transfer window, but there is a Championship club who could potentially have spent more than Liverpool and Arsenal put together...
Newcastle became the world's richest club when they were bought for £300m/€343m by a consortium led by the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia in October 2021. Their new owners are worth £500bn/€570bn all told.
That leaves the Toon well ahead of English champions Manchester City in terms of their ownership's wealth. City are majority owned by the Abu Dhabi United Group who are worth £19bn/€21.7bn - which still makes them the second-richest club in England.

Completing the podium is Chelsea, who swapped one billionaire for another when Roman Abramovich sold the club to Todd Boehly in May. The American leads a consortium which is worth £13.6bn/€15.6bn.
But close behind in fourth is a surprise club: Queen's Park Rangers. QPR haven't been in the Premier League since 2015 but they have a top-flight budget with owner part-owner Lakshmi Mittal worth a staggering £12.9bn/€14.7bn, owing to his steel empire.

As the Daily Star reports, QPR's ownership comes in at a figure "more than the combined total of £12.7bn/€14.7bn that equals the total worth of both ownership groups at Arsenal and Liverpool."
However, unlike the aforementioned Premier League powerhouses, QPR haven't opened up their coffers for player transfers this summer. Chelsea academy graduate Jake Clarke-Salter joined on a free alongside two others, with the London club also sourcing four players on loan.
Results have rather reflected that spend so far this season: Michael Beale's men sit ninth after eight Championship games played, having won three, drawn two and lost three.
Their record signing remains Christopher Samba, the centre-back who joined from the now defunct Anzhi Makhachkala for €14.3 million in January 2013.
