Ajax’s Edson Alvarez dreaming of move to Manchester City

Ajax defender Edson Alvarez has confirmed that a potential move to Manchester City would be a dream come true for the Mexican international.

Alvarez has only been at the club for just over a year after joining from Club America in July 2019, but has already set his sights on bigger and better things than his current Eredivisie side.

The 23-year-old is clearly ambitious despite not playing anywhere near as much as he would like, making just six Eredivisie starts last season, while in the current campaign a red card in September has reduced him to substitute cameos. Nevertheless, the defender has still set his sights on a move to England and with one club in particular.

“It is a dream of mine to play in the Premier League one day,” Alvarez told Voetbalzone. “Manchester City is my favourite club, so that would be perfect.”

Despite being in Holland for over a year now, Alvarez revealed the difficulties of swapping South American football for the Eredivisie was still something that he was adapting to.

“The football here is different from what I was used to at Club America. It all goes faster, so you have to little time to make decisions. That is something I have to get better at.”

Alvarez, who has played at centre-half and in defensive midfield at Ajax, praised manager Erik ten Hag’s football vision, confessing: “I like our playing style and how we put pressure.

“Many teams are waiting for their opponent, but we are not. At Ajax you have to put constant pressure, for ninety minutes and I love that vision.”
