Ben White: No surprise about transfer links, says Graeme Potter
Ben White is a player catching the attention of a host of top clubs, and that comes as no surprise to his manager Graeme Potter.
The 23-year-old has shone in his debut campaign with Brighton and Hove Albion having played every match for Leeds United on loan in the Championship last season.
That spell has readied him for Premier League football, and Potter believes his qualities are justifiably being talked about at the moment.
“He’s got a lot of attributes that are certainly very, very useful in the Premier League,” he said.
White has missed just 11 minutes at centre-back so far this season, starring in an exciting Brighton defence under Potter’s tutelage.
Rumours were linking him to a move to Liverpool throughout the summer, but the signing of a new long-term deal seemingly warded off any potential suitors.
Could Ben White make it at Liverpool?
The Reds could well move back in for him given their injury issues at centre half this season, with a move next summer perhaps more likely than any action in January.
Potter said the excitement surrounding his young defender was no shock, citing his range of passing and athleticism as such key attributes that are attractive to the big clubs.
Brighton will certainly be eager to keep hold of their man who leads the team in interceptions per 90 minutes while passing at an 82% completion rate.
Whether that new contract in the summer is a true showing of faith or merely driving up his price remains to be seen, but should he continue performing the way he is, the big boys in the Premier League will certainly come knocking.
