Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba looked back to his best for the club in their 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday night.

Despite not starting for Ralf Rangnick’s side, the France international came on in the 73rd minute and still managed to bag an assist a few minutes from time.

In the midst of a swift counter attack, Pogba found Bruno Fernandes in the Brighton box and watched his Portuguese teammate weave through a few players to make it two for Man Utd on the night.

While few would argue that Pogba has been a pivotal cog in Man Utd’s team this season, his contribution on the night was in fact his eighth assist in the Premier League in this current league campaign.

Which not only means the box-to-box talent is still top of Man Utd’s playmaking table but is perhaps still on course to break a Premier League record.

Could Pogba break the Premier League record for most assists?

The current record holders for most assists in a single Premier League campaign are Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne, who both bagged 20 in a single season for Arsenal and Manchester City respectively.

Pogba, naturally, is still 12 assists off matching such an incredible return by any playmaker, but it isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.

Following Tuesday’s win over Brighton, Manchester United now have 13 games left of the current league campaign.

Which would potentially mean Pogba has to basically pick up an assist in each of the club’s remaining games.

However, it’s worth bearing in mind that Pogba is currently creating assists every 105 minutes of league football for Man Utd this season, which means the French midfielder could end up picking up a further 11 assists if he can avoid injury and a dip in form that would see him drop out of Rangnick’s team.

So could Pogba snatch the record before the season comes to an end? It’s impossible to say right now, but if he can continue to improve each week for Man Utd it could end up happening.
