Newcastle United have been linked with just about every major player in European football since their take over by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund.

Regardless of whether it makes any sense in the real world, reports in England have suggested that the Premier League side will hoover up some of the best and most expensive players in the coming January transfer window.

One such example is none other than Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos, who has become a vital transfer target for the St James’ Park side, according to El Nacional.

However, when we take a look at Kroos’ situation at the Spanish club, it’s very easy to quickly fact-check this ridiculous notion.

Why Kroos won’t leave Madrid

The most obvious reason why Kroos won’t be leaving Madrid anytime soon is simply because he’s settled at the Spanish club and has already made it clear that he plans on winding down his career at the club.

The midfielder decided to retire from the Germany international team after Euro 2020 and in his farewell message he confirmed that his only remaining ambition was to spend his few remaining years as a player offering all he can to Madrid.

“Above all, because I want to concentrate fully on my goals with Real Madrid for the next few years,” said Kroos in an Instagram post back in July.

“From now on, I will consciously allow myself breaks that I haven't had as an international player for eleven years.

“And I also want to be more of a husband and father to my wife and three children. It was a great honour for me to wear this jersey for such a long time. I did it with pride and passion.

“Thank you to all the fans and supporters who have carried and supported me with their applause and cheers. And thanks to all the critics for their extra motivation.”

As such, it seems highly unlikely that Kroos would then change his mind so soon and move his family to a new country and a new club for the last three or four years of his career for a minor pay increase.
